LAST DAY

Suddenly I find myself waiting to go home. This is crazy! How have three months of my life gone by so fast? I haven't updated my blog or compiled my thoughts as much as I would have liked to and for this I am extremelt sorry.

I feel a real mix of emotions which in truth is making me feel physically sick. I miss home and the people but i don't wanna leave. My heart is in one place but my body longs for another; I'll let you decide which is which. THIS IS SO STRANGE!

I'll be home soon however and as it's my last full day, the boys are treating me to a full Kerala Body Massage. I'm not sure if it's actually a treat or just a lot of pain.

I'm gonna really miss this place and don't really kno what to write..... it's had a massive impact on my life.

So what's it all about then...?

Well, it's a long story really, but here is the short (er) version...!

I will be travelling to a City in the south of India and will be primarily working with a charity called The Fishermen Trust. There is a video about the Trust at the bottom of this web page.

The Fishermen Trust (TFT) is based in Bangalore, a City with a population of over 7.2 million people! Many of the young people living in this vast city suffer from low self esteem and low aspirations.

The Fishermen Trust has been established to work with other agencies to Engage and Empower these young people and then Enable and Equip them to make better choices.

I plan to spend two thirds of my time in India working for The Fishermen Trust, to find out more about the kind of work I will doing and the people I will be working with, please check out there website here. The rest of my time in Bangalore will be spent working closely with smaller charities and projects in and around the city, visiting orphanages and schools doing things like teaching basic English and using my skills as a drama and music practitioner to help build confidence and self-esteem, even in such simple things as playing games.

I will also be working closely with a local church that is linked with TFT, helping out with the youth and worship aspects of the church, something which is similar to what I do here in my local church.

My plan is to commit myself to this mission for 2 months, come rain or shine, and then be open as to what to do after the 2 months is over. Whether is be to stay in India, come home or go elsewhere.

So why am I going? Well on the application form I filled out to work for TFT, there was a section saying, ‘Reasons for applying’. I was quite honest in my response and so would like to share with you some of what was written. ‘I have recently been challenged by God to look at living more selflessly and start to push my boundaries of comfort so that I can reach my full potential of usefulness in his plans for me.

My daily routines and career aspects have been becoming less and less important where they were once meaning so much and I feel like I have been becoming stagnant in my current position. I really feel God has been putting the word

‘Importance’ in my mind of late, and has been making me think of what is ultimately important, not only to me but to others. TFT has been in the back of my mind ever since Raj came over to my church to present his vision. I really feel God was planting a seed in me then which has grown recently into a desire to go to India and help.

I must admit at first I felt a little lost when thinking of how I can help and what I would do, but with the help of Dave Hider and God I feel much more confident in my ability to live and work in India for a period of time, how long is unsure.’ I hope this paints a picture for you, as to why I’m going.

So, finally, thanks for taking some time out to read about my plans and passions. I would just like to make you aware that this is a self funded trip, I will not be getting paid out in India and will living of any money that I have raised from fundraisers and gifts whilst I’m out there. God has already begun to answer prayer to do with finances and needs and I believe by faith that he will continue to do so. I will also be raising money for TFT itself in the weeks leading up to my trip.

I reckon that's about it for now.
